I am going to grad school this fall. My last date with h1b employer will be the end of June.
Will I have enough time to apply for Change of status from within US? There is a 60 day grace period for change of status for H1b workers.

I came to know that applying for change of status cannot be done 30 days before program begins.

I want to go to Nepal, but there might be a risk for denial of F1 status.
Alternatively, I could go to Canada and apply for change of status from Canada and come back 30 days before Masters program starts.

Some of you guys must have been on the same boat. Let me know how the process went for you.

If you are with consultancy, run one more payroll so you have another month to transfer to F1. That may be your best option. Also why are you planning to go outside the country? Submit a adjustment first, get approved and then go for a F1 stamping. Here's some resource.
