Hi all,

just a brief background of my situation. i am a mba grad student from a OK school right now. and will graduate in May. i have no hopes of finding a job but if i get one i'll probably do it for a year or two.. my only concern now is getting into a doctrate program. i need a GMAT score of atleast 700 to get into a good program. but for me to get that kinda score i need to prepare for it for atleast 6 months. right now i work in the school and am a full time student so i really dont; have much time to prepare for my gmat.

Since i graduate in May and my OPT will start from then, i just have 3 months to apply for august 2011 session and prepare for my gmat. (which is just not enough time)

So I need suggestions for "how to stay in status" without spending a lot of money till lets say Aug 2010- August 2011.

Your suggestions will be appreciated.

may be you can do a joint degree or double degree if your university has that option. you can do MBA+MIS or something like that that might prolong your university time.

Thank you for your post, but if i join another full time program, i won't have much time to prepare for my gmat. Cost is another factor too.

I need a cheaper alternative. One of my friends suggested that I join a gmat class which might issue me another i20 and buy me 6 months.

I am also applying for my opt, but the prospect of landing a job is very bleak. Could you tell me more about the OPT procedures or any way around the OPT thing so that I can maintain status for a year without getting a job.

In essence what i am trying to say is, even if i DON'T GET A JOB during the OPT period is there any way around to maintain my OPT status.

timberland,

"Could you tell me more about the OPT procedures or any way around the OPT thing so that I can maintain status for a year without getting a job. "

You can do Volunteer  without pay in your field of Study and it will be Counted as a Job..That will maintain Status during Your 12 month OPT.

If u don't have a Job , You won't have Status..
